Your case is filed, and the date is set…now it’s time to get those summons and subpoenas out there. The best way to handle your case process is to use a reputable, experienced process server.
So what should you be looking out for when hiring a process server? Use our quick guide below to hit all the high notes and narrow your process server candidate list down (Pro tip: Skip the work and go straight for the best process servers in Ocala and surrounding areas – Accurate Serve®).
Are You Certified?
All process servers in Marion County, which is part of Florida’s 5th Judicial Circuit, must be certified by the judicial circuit to serve process here and in Citrus, Hernando, Lake, and Sumter counties. The certification process involves a background check, demonstration of knowledge of the laws and rules related to serving process, posting a bond, and some other checks.
If the process server you are interviewing cannot verify that they are certified by the 5th Judicial Circuit, move on to the next candidate.
What is Your Experience?
All process servers should be able to provide you with a list of references to showcase their previous work. Even new servers can show proof of training and certification. Ask for reference letters or to see their online reviews. Some past clients may even be willing to talk to you over the phone. Thoroughly vet everything the server tells you to be sure their info checks out.
Do You Provide Proof of Service?
All reputable process servers should provide verifiable proof of service to you and to the court where your case is filed. While not filing proof of service with the court doesn’t make the service invalid, it can hold up your case later on if the judge requests it. At Accurate Serve®, we file proof of service with the court and update all of our cases in our convenient 24/7 status tracking tool, available right on our homepage. This way, our clients always know exactly when their process is delivered.
